CoolSculpting treats the fat just under the skin called subcutaneous fat. This is the fat on the body that often doesn’t respond well to lifestyle changes, food modification, and exercise.

The Science Behind CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a fat-freezing procedure that targets stubborn fat cells in problem areas such as the belly, thighs, arms, chin, and more. CoolSculpting works through a process called cryolipolysis which is the cooling of adipose tissue to trigger the breaking down of fat cells only without damaging surrounding tissue. After the cells are frozen, the body removes them naturally.

The science behind CoolSculpting is now well-documented and offers evidence of effective treatments are published in 100 or more peer-reviewed publications. This body contouring method is known for its clinical efficacy, tolerability, and safety and studies have also been shared in leading journals Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Dermatologic Surgery. CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved procedure.

Is CoolSculpting for Me?

The most common patient interested in CoolSculpting is frustrated with fat areas on the body they can’t get rid of with appropriate diet and exercise. CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss solution for those who are overweight, but it can be a great alternative for patients who would prefer to avoid procedures like liposuction in order to gain a smoother appearance.

Treatment Sessions – What to Expect?

The treatment session works by applying the CoolSculpting applicator to target areas on the body freezing away fat cells just under the skin. The cells are frozen, die, and then your body eliminates them over several months. The result is a more sculpted and smoother appearance in the treatment area. Most patients require more than one session for optimum results. Patients can read magazines, surf their phone, and watch movies while sitting in treatment.

During the treatment session, each area takes approximately 30-60 minutes to treat. With CoolSculpting there is no surgery, little downtime, or injections. The CoolSculpting applicator draws the fat area up between cooling panels, and the controlled cooling goes to work. You may feel cold and pressure at first, but not any discomfort. After treatment, you may experience some minor bruising, tingling, numbness or redness but it should only be temporary. Some results may be noticeable within three weeks and can last for years.
